A dynamic model of a typical white-water network of a newsprint mill has be
en developed to study the effect of disturbances on the fibrous material di
stribution. The mass profiles show a progressive fines buildup in the wet e
nd; the highest observed fines content is at the headbox. Low fines retenti
on implies that fines are being continuously recycled back in the white-wat
er. The effect of headbox fines oh retention has been modeled by using a li
near function, the parameters of which were obtained by mass balance around
the machine forming zone.
