Abstract
To describe effective leaders of treatment teams, an earlier study of the r esponses of mental health team members yielded 6 factors that represented t heir perceptions about leadership (Corrigan,Garman, Lam, & Leary, in press) . The purpose of this study was to determine whether rehabilitation staff m embers reported the same factors in describing their team leaders. A total of 305 members of rehabilitation teams completed the Team Atmosphere Questi onnaire. Results of a principal-components analysis of the responses yielde d 7 factors. Four of these factors overlapped significantly with the first 4 factors produced by the analysis of the mental health sample: Autocratic leadership, Clear Roles and Coals, Reluctant Leadership; and Vision. Both s amples yielded leadership factors related to diversity issues. Implications for training effective leaders for the rehabilitation team were discussed.
