Abstract
The presence of MoOCl3 with MoCl5 was found to change the stage structure o f resultant graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) with MoCl5. Heating MoO Cl3 with MoCl5 and graphite at 200 degrees C for seven days produced stage- 1 MoCl5-GIC in a single phase, though no addition of MoOCl3 resulted in the formation of poorly crystallized stage-3 GIC and a large amount of its add ition in no intercalation of MoCl5.
