Abstract
We report on an initial attempt to apply luminescence dating to a sample fr om a fossil alluvial channel bar deposit situated on a terrace similar to 5 0 m above the present course of the Orange River approximately 7 km west of Aliwal North on Rotondo farm. Our findings show that such alluvium is with in the range of luminescence dating, and that the alluvial terrace gravels may be younger than was previously speculated.
