L. Foschini, ON RADAR MEASUREMENTS OF THE TERRESTRIAL MASS ACCRETION RATE OF METEOROIDS, Nuovo cimento della Societa italiana di fisica. C, Geophysics and space physics, 20(1), 1997, pp. 127-130
Radar data recorded during 1993 and 1994 by using the forward-scatter
meteor radar of the National Research Council (CNR), enable us to obta
in a measurement of the terrestrial mass accretion rate in the cosmic
dust mass range 10(-12) to 10(-7) kg. This value results to be 5.4 . 1
0(7) per year and is in good agreement with previous estimates obtaine
d from other authors (LOVE S. G. and BROWNLEE D. E., Science, 262 (199
3) 550). Calculations are possible only by taking into account some st
atistical data series and extrapolation toward higher mass ranges appe
ars to be misleading.
