For radiation-induced polymerization of styrene in highly concentrated (gel
-like) emulsions, the effect of the initiation rate on the kinetics of poly
merization and the molecular mass of the resulting polymer was studied. It
was found that the rate of initiation (irradiation intensity) does not affe
ct the rate of polymerization, the number of latex particles, and the durat
ion of the first stage. The molecular mass of polystyrene varies in inverse
;proportion to the radiation intensity, and its molecular mass distribution
corresponds to the Flory distribution.
