Biphenyl-8-carboxylic-2'-NN'-dimethyl-methylamine has been studied as a mod
el compound of a biologically relevant hydrogen bonded system. NMR experime
ntal studies have been performed to estimate the hydrogen bond energy from
the rotational energies of the biphenyl ring and the nitrogen inversion of
the amino group. Approximative theoretical calculations have been performed
as a complementary study to the NMR experiments.
