Abstract
Results from incorporation studies with C-13-labelled acetate, propionate a nd proline establish a polyketide origin for the pyrrole-containing strepto mycete metabolite, XR587, and are in accord with the formation of an amide bond via an unprecedented rearrangement of a proline-derived starter unit.
