Heat-related illnesses

A critical care clinician must be able to understand heat-related illnesses and manage them appropriately. Prompt recognition of these illnesses when they occur and selection of appropriate therapeutic modalities to treat the m are crucial to reduce morbidity and mortality. This article reviews the p hysiology of human thermoregulation, predisposing factors, clinical present ation, complications, management, and prevention of heat-related illnesses.
