S. Smelko et L. Scheer, Height growth and increment of the poplar clones in the region of the Gabcikovo water dam, EKOL BRATIS, 18(2), 1999, pp. 143-153
The height growth process of two breeding poplar clones Populus robusta rin
d I-214 is analysed in the paper in comparison with assumed model course. T
his analysis for the period 1989-1995 was carried out in the mentioned area
. The following question is investigated, if this growth process was influe
nced by the damming-up of the Danube river in 1992. Height and annual incre
ment data of 114 sample trees on 9 permanent monitoring plots were a basis
for this research. These data are so methodologically processed, that natur
e variability is considered, age growth trend, site index and age differenc
es between the monitoring plots are also eliminated. Negative influence of
dammed-up Danube river was trot confirmed. On the contrary, results indicat
e that height growth is steeper and height increments are the same or highe
r as model. The influence of groundwater level change was also not signific
ant. All knowledge are with statistical tests on 5 % probability level supo
rted.
