Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is attributable primarily to acid
and bile reflux through the lower oesophageal sphincter. Bile reflux has be
en implicated in severe oesophagitis, Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal
adenocarcinoma. Developments in evaluating and managing GORD and Barrett's
are discussed, with their aetiological role in junctional gastro-oesophagea
l malignancies.
