New forms of skin grafting: from the laboratory to the clinic

This article reviews current research on skin replacements used in the mana gement of extensive burns and in reconstructive surgery. It describes how p rogress is being made in developing both biological skin substitutes and ar tificial materials with the aim of providing skin cover by means other than traditional skin grafting.
