Desalination plants are essential for life in several parts of the world. T
hey are complex systems which, fortunately, can be broken down into more or
less independent subsystems. To improve the operating performance of these
plants, new control methods are being tested and evaluated. Here, we have
proposed a fuzzy logic based controller to control the temperature in the b
rine heater, a very nonlinear system. This controller has been favorably co
mpared to more conventional approaches. Moreover, a stability study has bee
n realized.
