Abstract
The paper presents an application of the discrete wavelet transform to the monitoring of tool failure in end milling operations using the spindle moto r current. The discrete wavelet transform performs a multilevel signal deco mposition to extract the tool failure feature front the spindle motor curre nt. Experimental results have shown that tool failure in end milling operat ions can be clearly detected even under varying cutting conditions.
