Many deaf and hard of hearing high school students are not adequately prepa
red for postsecondary education which, in turn, impedes their success in th
e work world. To address this need, the League for the Hard of Hearing cond
ucts a four-week summer College Preparatory and Readiness Program. The purp
ose of this evaluation was to determine whether the program improves studen
ts' mathematics and English standardized test scores. Two studies are repor
ted, one of sessions conducted between 1990 and 1996, the other of a sessio
n conducted in 1997. Results show that the program is very successful and t
hat the achievement level of deaf and hard of hearing students can be marke
dly improved using a specialized and intensive summer program.
