Y. Ikeda et al., Properties for variations of temperature and salt-density of cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogel, KOBUNSH RON, 56(5), 1999, pp. 323-327
New cross-linked poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) hydrogel was obtained by the co-p
olymerization of vinyl acetate and triallyl isocyanurate, followed by the a
lkali-saponification. This PVA hydrogel possessed the same characteristics
as a non-ionic 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) hydrogel, the best shape
stability for the salt-density and some changes of size for the temperature
variations. And the higher cross-linked PVA hydrogel showed the better sta
bility for the temperature variations. These results suggest that this cros
s-linked PVA hydrogel will be promising as a biomedical nan-ionic hydrogel,
particularly for ophthalmic applications.
