Nh. Volcker et al., Synthesis of heterotelechelic poly(ethylene glycol)s and their characterization by MALDI-TOF-MS, MACRO CH P, 200(6), 1999, pp. 1363-1373
Two heterotelechelic poly(ethylene glycol)s were synthezised by end group m
odification of alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxy-poly(oxyethylene) (PEG). The first
reaction route starts from heterobifunctional alpha-hydro-omega-octadecano
yloxy-poly(oxyethylene) (400) and comprises the synthesis of alpha-hydro-om
ega-carboxymethoxy-poly(oxyethylene). The second pathway starts from homote
lechelic PEG(400) and leads to alpha-(2-propenyl)-omega-carboxymethylthio-p
oly(oxyethylene). Purification of the desired products was accomplished by
means of ion exchange chromatography on DEAE Sephadex. PEG derivatives were
characterized by means of NMR, IR, HPLC and GPC. MALDI-TOF-MS recorded in
the reflectron mode served as a fine method that provides information on ch
emical composition as well as molecular weight.
