P Cygni profiles atop broad emission lines

In a normal P Cygni profile, an expanding atmosphere absorbs continuum phot ons from an inner core, leading to the well-known blue absorption + red emi ssion pattern. In this paper we explore a variant of this classical problem , where the continuum source is replaced by a rapidly expanding region prod ucing broad emission Lines. Resonant scattering or destruction of the inner wind photons by outer wind atoms gives rise to a blueshifted absorption fe ature broken into three frequency intervals, while photons from the recedin g part of the outer wind are partially absorbed by the inner wind, leading to a redshifted absorption component. These features, seen atop broad and n arrow emission components, produce complex structures in the line profiles.
