Abstract
We report on high-resolution observations (R = 35000) of the Hubble Deep Fi eld South QSO J2233-606 obtained with the University College London Echelle Spectrograph at the Anglo-Australian Telescope. We present spectral data f or the wavelength region 3530 < lambda < 4390 Angstrom. The data have a mea n signal-to-noise ratio in the continuum of approximately 15 per 0.05-Angst rom resolution element at lambda > 3700 Angstrom. Voigt profiles are fitted to determine the redshift and column densities of the observed features. E ight heavy-element intervening systems are identified, as well as an associ ated system showing evidence for incomplete coverage of the background sour ce.
