In automated mail processing systems, it is necessary to feed mail items wi
th high accuracy and at high speed. Conventionally, feeders using friction
or air suction has been made commercially available. As mail processing equ
ipment is being more and more frequently used because of automated carrier
sequence sorting, there has been a growing demand for high speed and high a
ccuracy feeding of unfaced mail. Since conventional methods could not meet
these demands, we have developed a mechanism of higher accuracy with leadin
g-edge-first feeding by combining friction and air suction feeding. Also; w
e have developed a prototype system enabling feeding stacking and automatic
destacking to realize full automation of carrier sequence processing. We a
re planning to apply the newly developed feeders to the systems to be deliv
ered abroad.
