Abstract
We demonstrate that a quantum well intermixing technique can be used t o control the second-order nonlinearity chi(zzz)((2)) in an AlGaAs asy mmetric coupled quantum well waveguide structure at 1.52 mu m. Photolu minescence measurements also indicate that the spatial resolution of t he impurity-free vacancy disordering process used for quantum well int ermixing is better than 1.5 mu m which should be sufficient for first- order quasiphase-matched second harmonic generation.
