In the course of the last decade, IOM Leipzig has developed low-energy elec
tron accelerators for electron beam curing of polymer coatings and printing
inks. In order to optimize the electron irradiation field, electron optica
l calculations have been carried out using the commercially available EGUN
code. The present study outlines the design of the diode-type low-energy el
ectron accelerators LEA and EBOGEN, taking into account the electron optica
l effects of secondary components such as the retaining rods installed in t
he cathode assembly. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
