T. Kifune, GROUND-BASED GAMMA-RAY ASTRONOMY - GENERAL REMARKS, Nuovo cimento della Societa italiana di fisica. C, Geophysics and space physics, 19(6), 1996, pp. 953-957
The ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has its coming of age currently w
ith 4 sources detected at high significance levels, after experiencing
about 30 years history. The energetic gamma rays provide direct means
for uncovering higher-energy non-thermal phenomena at various celesti
al objects. We need more data with improved sensitivities, and multitu
des of such efforts are now under way.
