Abstract
We present a physical model based on the Green's-function method for the de scription of excitons in quantum wells. The model takes into account the fr ee carrier screening of the attractive Coulomb potential at tinite temperat ure and the effective confinement potentials. We provide an expression for the calculation of the exciton binding energy as a function of the well wid th and of the plasma concentration both in III-V and II-VI quantum wells.
