Abstract
Audio frequency dielectric constant measurements of CO and N-2 in their sol id phases are presented. Anomalous temperature dependence of the dielectric constant in the alpha-phases of both CO and N-2 and strong hysteresis effe cts above an onset temperature T-h similar or equal to 42 K in the beta-pha se of pure N-2 have been observed. A simple mean-field theory is proposed w hich explains some of the observed anomalies in the alpha-phase. (C) 1999 E lsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
