Abstract
A new approach to the classical r-matrix for integrable systems is given in terms of a geometric framework where the r-matrix is related to a fourth r ank tensor, named the r-tensor. in this picture the transformation properti es of the r-matrix follow naturally from the covariance of the r-tensor.
