Neutrino induced electrostatic waves in degenerate electron plasmas

The plasma theory of electrostatic waves generated collisionlessly when neu trinos pass through degenerate electrons is developed. It is consistent wit h quantum statistical field theory in the degenerate limit. The reactive ca se can also be treated. For neutrino distributions considered herein, neith er case develops significantly during e.g. the neutrino burst in a supernov a explosion. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
