The cross section for the reaction Cl-35(n, p)S-35 induced by thermal react
or neutrons has been measured, and the parameters of the resonances at E-0
= 398 and 4249 eV have been determined. This investigation has been perform
ed at the IBR-30 nuclear reactor installed at the Frank Laboratory of Neutr
on Physics (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna). Data on the above
cross section and resonance parameters have been obtained by a relative me
thod, with the known cross sections for the (n, alpha) and (n, p) reactions
on Li-6 and N-14 nuclei being used for reference. The role of the reaction
Cl-35(n, p)S-35 in the nucleosynthesis of light elements is discussed, and
conflicting measurements of its cross section are reviewed. It is argued t
hat precision measurements of this transition will make it possible to prob
e its weak matrix element.
