M. Olteanu et Pm. Pavel, A NEW APPROACH TO MODELING ELECTRICAL-CONDUCTIVITY IN MOLTEN-SALT MIXTURES WITH COMMON ION .1., Revue Roumaine de Chimie, 41(11-12), 1996, pp. 913-923
The basics of a physico-chemical model for electrical conductivity in
molten salt systems with common ion are presented. It is a hybrid mode
l as it combines two distinct representations of the melt, each one ba
sed on different premises: i) the existence of an incomplete dissociat
ion of the two salts, depending on temperature and composition:, ii) t
he analogy between an equivalent circuit of electrical resistors and t
he melt resistance, the latter being calculated as a sum of contributi
ons of the individual components of the mixture, each placed within se
parate cells that can be linked together either in series or in parall
el. The change in the real number of charge carriers on mixing is refl
ected by the evolution of the molar conductivity isotherms. A numerica
l method for solving the equations derived according to the proposed m
odel is presented together with the algorithm used to compute theoreti
cal conductivities.
