Many therapeutic agents have been advocated for use in cats with idiopathic
lower urinary tract disease (iLUTD); however, few have been subject to con
trolled clinical trials proving their efficacy and safety, The problem is c
ompounded by the fact that clinical signs associated with iLUTD are frequen
tly of short duration and self-limiting. Consequently, any form of therapy
may appear beneficial as long as it is not harmful. This article explores v
arious options for managing clinical signs and potential sequelae associate
d with iLUTD.
