The SR (Ser-Arg) proteins are a family of nuclear factors that play multipl
e important roles in splicing of mRNA precursors in metazoan organisms. fun
ctioning in both constitutive and regulated splicing. Certain of these func
tions are redundant, such that any single SR proteins will suffice, but oth
er functions are unique and are specific to a given family member. A number
of studies during the past year have investigated the. basis for SR protei
n specificity.
