Li. Tsao et al., Reversal by [D-Ala(2),D-Leu(5)]enkephalin of the dopamine transporter losscaused by methamphetamine, EUR J PHARM, 372(3), 1999, pp. R5-R7
A single administration of 40 mg/kg (i.p.) of methamphetamine caused a loss
of dopamine transporter in the striatum of albino Swiss (CD-1) mouse for a
t least 3 weeks. The administration of a single dose of [D-Ala(2),D-Leu(5)]
enkephalin (DADLE) (18 mg/kg, i.p.), given at day 14 after the administrati
on of methamphetamine, caused a significant, transient restoration of dopam
ine transporter level in the striatum. These results suggest that delta-opi
oid peptide DADLE is able to reverse the neuronal damage caused by methamph
etamine. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
