B. Reininger et al., Dimensions of participation and leadership: Implications for community-based health promotion for youth, FAM COMM H, 22(2), 1999, pp. 72-82
Several factors influence a community's ability to build an effective commu
nity-based health promotion program. Three dimensions related to leadership
and participation are explored in three different community health initiat
ives: 1) clarification of scope of activities, 2) identifying skilled indig
enous leadership, and 3) formality of relationships. These dimensions are i
mportant elements in establishing coalitions around youth health issues. Fi
ndings are illustrated in case study format and implications for promoting
health in youth are delineated.
