Abstract
A feature recognition methodology is presented, based on wire frame solid m odeler, to recognize hollow or solid extrudable component(s) using both sin gle and multiple hole die. The 2D geometric data obtained from AutoCAD DXF file is processed and entities are classified into line, are, polyline, cir cle and ellipse. On further processing, various features are recognized as billet, component and pocket. A component, hallow or solid, is recognized o n the basis of product and all its pocket features. The feature data can be formatted for die design and development of related CAPP systems. The meth odology has been implemented in the C language on PC 486 and HP 9000 and is demonstrated through an example.
