A technique for the rapid solidification processing of alloy melts by rotat
ing blades melt quenching (RBMQ) has recently been developed. In the presen
t paper the kinetics of this process is explained by theoretical analyses,
focusing on the impact force of the blade on the melt stream and the spread
ing of the melt under this impact. The effect of melt properties and proces
sing parameters resulting from theoretical calculations agree with experime
ntal observations in the case of Al-Fe alloys. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.
