Abstract
We consider the anomaly problem in the generalized canonical quantizat ion of a bosonic string interacting with background graviton and antis ymmetric tensor fields. We derive an equation for the symbol of the an omaly operator, find a solution to that equation, and establish a gene ral form for the anomaly operator allowed by the quantization procedur e.
