Abstract
A model for simulating the oxidation of Zircaloy-4 (Zry-4) in steam at 400 degrees C with different precipitate and grain sizes is presented. The mode l combines diffusion with interconnecting porosity, defines an interface wi th discrete propagation in time and is able to reproduce the experimental k inetics. It has been possible in this way to establish a correlation betwee n the parameters responsible for the oxide behaviour (protective or not) an d the metallurgical characteristics of the metallic substrate.
