N. Agnihotri et al., 2 '-Hydroxyacetophenonebenzoylhydrazone as an analytical reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of vanadium(III), J INDIAN CH, 76(3), 1999, pp. 165-167
2'-Hydroxyacetophenonebenzoylhydrazone (HABH) forms a light red 1 : 2 (V :
HABH) complex with V-III species at 50-60 degrees in 0.12-0.20 M CH3COOH me
dium which is extracted into benzene and has lambda(max) at 465 nm, The mol
ar absorptivity, Sandell's sensitivity and standard deviation are 1.05 x 10
(4) dm(3) mol(-1) cm(-1), 0.0049 mu g V cm(-2) and +/-0.0006 respectively,
at 465 nm, Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range 0-1.5 mu g V m
l(-1). Large number of elements do not interfere. The method can be used to
determine vanadium in a wide variety of synthetic and technical samples in
cluding alleged steel and reverberatory flue dust.
