Abstract
This work provides some historical aspects of the determination of the Newt onian gravitational constant, G, df searches for variations in it and studi es of related anomalous effects. The discussion includes a synopsis of pres ent and planned experiments, and of the status of attempts to theoretically estimate the value of G.
