Dynamics of wave packets described by the third-order nonlinear Schrodinger
equation is considered employing numerical methods. It is shown that initi
al pulse tends to one or a few solitons plus a linear quasi-periodic wave u
nder the condition of the same signs of parameters of the third-order linea
r dispersion and nonlinear dispersion. The number and parameters of the sol
itons depend on the magnitudes of both initial pulse parameters and paramet
