Dynamics of wave packets in the frame of third-order nonlinear Schrodingerequation

Dynamics of wave packets described by the third-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation is considered employing numerical methods. It is shown that initi al pulse tends to one or a few solitons plus a linear quasi-periodic wave u nder the condition of the same signs of parameters of the third-order linea r dispersion and nonlinear dispersion. The number and parameters of the sol itons depend on the magnitudes of both initial pulse parameters and paramet ers of the equation. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
