Everyone is now aware of the importance of tree pollinosis, which requires
careful attention to our environment and to daily climatic variations. The
species involved differ from one region of France to another and the pollen
s produced are also subject to the influence of pollution, motor vehicle ci
rculation and rain conditions, which also vary considerably from one place
to another. Pollen calendars can therefore be established in each region af
ter clinical evaluation of the repercussions of pollen rain on the patients
' respiratory tract and conjunctival mucosa. Standardization of certain all
ergenic tree pollen extracts has improved diagnosis and treatment, but extr
acts derived from major recombinant allergens, which could be made more eff
ective by modification of their B epitopes, are eagerly awaited.
