An analytic solution is obtained for the problem of electron motion in an e
lectron boundary layer along the surface of a conductor in a static electri
c field. Calculations are made of the longitudinal conductivity near the su
rface in the limit of weak and strong Coulomb nonideality of the layer elec
trons. It is shown that under certain conditions the boundary conductivity
may greatly exceed the conductivity in the bulk of the conductor. (C) 1999
