A simple and accurate method for the analysis of methyldopa, using differen
tial method is described. The spectrophotometric measurements were recorded
by measuring the increase in absorbance at 310 nm and 470 nm after reactin
g methyldopa with potassium iodate at 30 +/- 1 degrees C. The kinetic param
eters were calculated. The concentration range was valid from 125-750 ppm a
nd the molar absorptivities were 0.69x10(2) and 0.2x10(2) L mol cm(-1) at 3
10 and 470 nm respectively. The proposed kinetic method has been applied su
ccessfully to formulation. The results obtained in the present work have be
en statistically compared with reference method.
