Cases of myeloid surface antigen-negative acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are
rare. We describe the morphological, cytochemical, immunologic, and cytogen
etic features of two patients with AML with maturation (FAB M2) and the phe
notype MPO +, CD13 (-), CD33(-), CD56(+). Cytogenetic studies demon strated
t(8;21)(q22;q22). These findings suggest an association between the lack o
f CD13 and CD33 in myeloperoxidase-positive AML and the presence of t(8;21)
.
