A synthetic procedure for the routine preparation of [F-18] N-3-fluoropropy
l-2-beta-carbomethoxy-3-beta-(4'- methylphenyl) nortropane (F-18 FPCMT) has
been developed. The synthesis is based on alkylation of nortropane with F-
18 labeled fluoropropyl tosylate. Purification of the final product was ach
ieved by a preparative HPLC procedure using Alltech Econosil column. Separa
tion of the desired compound was achieved and the product was clean. The ra
diochemical yield (without decay correction) is 4 to 5%, calculated at the
end of the synthesis based on the total amount of fluorine recovered from t
he target. Radiochemical purity was in the range of 98 to 99%. (C) 1999 Els
