Abstract
We investigated an antihypertensive effect of insulin in aged ZDF rat (24 w eeks) in which insulin resistance is highly developed. Insulin treatment ca used no change in plasma glucose levels but considerably decreased blood pr essure, which was accompanied by an increase in plasma NO metabolites (NOx) in these animals. These findings suggest that NO production may be involve d in the antihypertensive effect of insulin in the aged ZDF rat, in which i nsulin resistance had been established.
