Abstract
Two cases of bartonella endocarditis are described: one in a 55 year o ld homeless alcoholic man, caused by Bartonella quintana; the other in a 41 year old male with a history of exposure to cat fleas, caused by B henselae. Serological testing and polymerase chain reaction of the excised valves were used to identify the organisms. False positive ser ology for chlamydia was detected in one case.
