CHARACTERIZATION AND TREATABILITY STUDY OF THE WASTEWATERS GENERATED FROM TUBITAK-MARMARA RESEARCH-CENTER (MRC)

Characterization and treatability of the wastewaters of MRC where basi c, technological and applied research are being carried on, were inves tigated. Activated sludge biological treatability resulted in 95% redu ction of GOD. However, sludge bulking problem have been encountered. I n this case physicochemical treatment by using jar test experiments wa s performed where 30-60% COD removal efficiency was attainable. It was recommended that wastewater from laboratories should be pretreated se parately by physicochemical treatment, then be subjected to activated sludge biological treatment process with domestic wastewater.
