In this paper it is shown that the magnetic fields very close to an ESD can
be predicted by modelling the radiating discharge current path as a sequen
ce of electric dipoles. Time domain measurements of current and magnetic fi
elds generated by human-metal electrostatic discharges are used for verific
ation. An ESD current of 10 A peak and 10 ns rise time can create magnetic
fields of the order of 200 mu T at a distance of 10 mm from the discharge.
