Abstract
We have studied the influence of different solvents and of the pH on the sp ectroscopic properties of Sn(IV)tetrapyridyl and tetramethylpyridinium porp hyrins. Then these porphyrins were immobilized in sol-gel matrices. The spe ctroscopic properties of the immobilized porphyrins are dependent on the co mposition of the matrix and on its polarity. Evidence for the presence of a distribution of environments for the porphyrin in the matrix are demonstra ted using fluorescence spectroscopy and maximum entropy method (MEM).
